SBPS 2023

A collaborative group project created using Blender for De Montfort University’s Sketchbook and Poster Show 2023, an event showcasing the creative work of graphic design students. The design is inspired by the concept of creativity and exploration, using primary colours—red, blue, and yellow—to symbolise the fundamental elements of design and artistic expression.

The central visual element of the poster is inspired by a bead maze toy, a playful reference to the exploration of youth and the formative experiences that shape a designer’s journey. The maze features three distinct bead shapes—circle, square, and triangle—inspired by a first-year lecture from our tutors titled “What Shape Are You?”. This lecture encouraged us to reflect on our personal and creative identities through the metaphor of shapes, each representing different personality traits and approaches to design. This idea is visually represented in the poster, reflecting the diverse perspectives and styles that the event celebrates.

To further promote the event, we used Adobe Aero to bring the “SBPS” letters from the poster into the physical world through augmented reality (AR). We placed these letters around various locations on campus, allowing students to interact with them in a new and engaging way on the day of the event.

Beyond the physical and digital elements, we launched a social media campaign to extend the event’s reach. We shared AR experiences and event highlights across multiple platforms, using visually cohesive posts that carried the poster’s identity into online spaces. The campaign included interactive content, behind-the-scenes insights, and location-based promotions featuring the AR “SBPS” elements at different points around campus. This approach maximised engagement and amplified the event’s visibility, generating excitement both on and off campus.

In addition to these efforts, we created a promotional video animation in Blender, featuring Sneakheads, the event’s sponsor. The animation showcased the Sneakheads character skating around the “SBPS” letters, bringing the event branding to life in a playful and dynamic way. This animation was used both in social media promotions and as a digital installation during the event, adding an extra layer of excitement and drawing attention to the collaboration with our sponsor.
